JEE Main queries and their solutions by ALLEN experts | JEE Main 2020 Question & Answers

Question-1 : What would you like to advise the students appearing for JEE Main 2020?

Ans.  JEE MAIN is a simple exam but what makes it competitive is the number of students appearing for it. So according to me, a student who is following a perfect & disciplined schedule and is under the guidance of experts has a fair chance of cracking and acing the JEE MAIN 2020.

Question-2 : What is the most effective study plan for a student who is appearing for JEE Main 2020?

Ans.  The study plan for cracking JEE MAIN 2020 January is as follows:-

  • First and foremost a student must devote 6 hours of self-study. Now divide these 6 hours into two slots of 4hours and 2 hours. Where the first slot should be dedicated for studying the current portion and the second one for revising the old portion.
  • In the first slot of 4 hrs. give the first 1hour for re-calling the topics taught in class and the remaining three hours for solving at least 90 problems based on various topics( 30 in each subject) as it will help you in keeping a track of your speed which would be beneficial during the exam.
  • In the second slot of 2 hours, revise one complete chapter of physics/chemistry/maths and solve questions from previous years based on the same chapter.
  • Since the JEE MAIN examines the problems solving skill, so the student appearing for this examination should also focus on enhancing these skills in order to crack it.
  • Students are strongly suggested to solve questions from the previous years as they have covered most of the concepts related to a particular chapter. Also, it has been observed that most of the problems asked in JEE MAIN are derived from previous year’s JEE ADVANCED/ JEE MAIN papers. Solving such questions boosts the confidence level of the student and also does the conditioning of his brain.
  • It is scientifically proven that physical activities develop the cognitive skills and enhance the memory of a person thus try your best to play any sport for at least 30 to 50 mins. daily

Remember, JEE MAIN is a simple exam, but all it requires is a disciplined preparation, keeping things simple and having control over the mind.

Question-3 : What are the best books recommended to prepare for JEE Main 2020?

Ans. JEE Main syllabus is based on NCERT so it is advised to read the NCERT books carefully and solve all the exercises given in the book.  In addition to this, students must use the following in order to prepare for the exam:-

  1. NCERT exampler
  2. Previous years papers of JEE MAIN and JEE ADVANCED.
  3. Study material of a good coaching institute.

Question-4 : What should be the preparation strategy (chapter wise) for JEE Main 2020?

Ans. In JEE Main questions can be asked from any chapter that are included in the syllabus. So it can’t be said which chapter is more important. It is advised to complete all the chapters up to the NCERT level. A student should target finishing 80 percent of the syllabus with a high level of perfection. If a student is able to attempt 80 percent of the paper with accuracy in 3 hours then he may score well and will definitely land into a good NIT.

uestion-5 : What should be the preparation strategy for a 12th grader who is preparing for JEE Main 2020?

Ans. First and foremost you must understand the nature and the pattern of JEE examination:

This year’s question paper will contain 75 questions (25 of each subject). In each subject, 20 questions will be MCQ’s and 5 questions will be integer answer type. Since the duration is the same i.e. 3 hours and the number of questions has decreased to 75 from 90, we can expect the difficulty level to increase. JEE MAIN paper is expected to be a reflection of JEE advanced paper.

Following are the suggestions for the students of 12th grade:-

  • Thoroughly read each chapter of NCERT book (12th grade) and solve the examples of each chapter on your own. In addition, you could also solve NCERT exampler as it has a double benefit of preparing you for Boards and JEE MAIN syllabus of class 12. NOTE: Try finishing this by the first week of November.
  • In order to revise the syllabus of class 11, a student must use good study material from a well-known coaching institute. One must revise all the basic formulae and solve the exercises given in the module. Target to finish this syllabus by 20th December.
  • From 21st Dec to 5th January, students should solve previous year papers. One should aim at solving 2 papers daily and the time slot for solving these papers should be 09:00 AM to 12:00 NOON and 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM as JEE MAIN exam takes place in the same time slots. Make sure you check your answers and revise the concepts in which you have made mistakes.
  • In addition to the above-mentioned point, a student must solve all the single correct as well as integer answer type problems that are asked in JEE ADVANCED in the last 15 years.
  • By sincerely following the above-mentioned strategies with 100 percent commitment, a student may easily score 150+ out of 300 in such a small duration of time.

Question-6 : What is the best time table that can be followed by a student who is in class 10th/11th/12th grade and is planning to appear for the medical or engineering entrance exams?

Ans. Managing coaching and school are more of psychological pressure that students carry in their minds. However, one must understand that if their fundamentals are strong then they can easily glide through any exam pattern. Here is a simple table that a student can follow:-

  • 4 hours for self-study. During this period they should revise the topics taught in class and solve the related problems. Competitive exams test the knowledge and problem-solving skills of a student and in order to sharpen them, a student is advised to solve at least 25 exam-level objective problems of each subject daily.
  • It is scientifically proven that physical activity improves memory and functioning of the brain. A student must spend 45 minutes to 1 hour for any physical activity like running, cycling, swimming or any other outdoor game.
  • Sound sleep is very essential for the proper functioning of the body and brain. A student should try to sleep for 6.5 to 7 hours preferably between 11 PM to 6 AM.
  • On holidays self-study time should be of 7 to 8 hours which can be divided into two sittings of equal duration.

Question-7 : What should be the preparation strategy as the examination draw close?

Ans.  As the exam draws closer

  1. A student should focus on his stronger areas.
  2. He should avoid studying new concepts.
  3. He/she should focus on revising the chapters that they have studied earlier.
  4. Solve previous year question papers of JEE Main.

If a student has a good command over the 80 percent of the syllabus, then he has a fair chance of scoring at least 175-200 out of 300.

Question-8 : How important are the test series, mock tests and previous year question papers for JEE Main 2020?

Ans. 1. Joining test series of a good coaching institute is highly beneficial as:

  • It allows a student to know his performance when compared with other aspirants. Also, a student becomes capable of identifying his weaker section and can improve accordingly.
  • Tests are prepared by a team of experts by considering all level of possibilities for JEE Main 2020 so the students can be benefitted to a great extent.
  1. Mock Tests are the tests that are similar to the main examination. By giving mock tests the students get the feel of a real examination. A student can also identify the shortcomings and can improve them.
  2. Solving previous years question paper plays a vital role in one’s preparation. It has been observed that questions in JEE Main paper are derived from questions that have been asked in previous years.

Ans. Online Test Series Programme is beneficial for students who are not enrolled in any coaching institute. A student may join the programme on the commencement of an academic year.

Question-13 : If a student has persistently scored less in regular tests, how can they motivate themselves for JEE Main 2020?

Ans. Low score in regular tests provides a student with an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Students are advised to identify their weaknesses and regularly work on them and by doing so they will be able to convert their weakness into their strength.

Question-14 :  After board examination, what should be the Revision strategy for JEE MAIN 2020?

Ans. Students are advised to prepare short notes of every chapter. Short notes play a vital role in speeding up the revision. And they should also focus on solving two questions papers daily from previous years once their board examinations are over.

Question-15 :  Should I enrol myself in a coaching class or self-study is enough to clear JEE Main?

Ans.  With the increase in the level of competition; joining a good coaching institute serves as an added advantage while preparing for JEE Main.

A good coaching institute provides:-

  1. A time-bound schedule
